Travel is About Making Memories

Four of my five kids are grown and are out living adult lives now.  In the past few years, I have enjoyed gaining some insight into what they remember about their upbringing.  True to what you would think, they remember moments far more than they remember the things they had growing up.

When we would travel, I remember telling them that vacation is “about the memories, and not about the things.”  We had a standing travel rule that didn’t allow them to ask for “stuff.”  If they didn’t ask, I would surprise them with a goodie here and there along the way.  If they found something they liked in a gift shop, we would often take a photo of it.  When we think back on our vacations, they seldom remember the things in the shops, but they sure do remember the surprises along the way!

“You will never look back in your life and think, I spent too much time with my kids.” – Kimberly Mcleod

“Memories made together lasts a lifetime.” – Unknown

“Two roads diverged in the woods, and I – I took the one less traveled by, and that has made all the difference.” – Robert Frost

“A Family That Travels Together Stays Together.” – Unknown

“Road trips are the equivalent of human wings. Ask me to go on one, anywhere. We’ll stop in every small town and learn the history and stories, feel the ground, and capture the spirit. Then we’ll turn it into our own story that will live inside our history to carry with us, always. Because stories are more important than things.” – Victoria Erickson

“There is no WiFi in the forest, but you will find a better connection.” – Unknown

“To my mind, the greatest reward and luxury of travel is to be able to experience everyday things as if for the first time, to be in a position in which almost nothing is so familiar it is taken for granted.” – Bill Bryson
