Are you ready to be dazzled by the golden beauty of sunflower fields in Michigan?  That’s right!  Sunflowers aren’t just for those fancy states out West!  We have a whole plethora of choices for experiencing our very own sunflower fields right here in Michigan!

Prepare to be transported to a world where the sunflowers stand tall and proud, their vibrant yellow petals reaching for the sky.  Picture yourself strolling through endless rows of these cheerful blooms; their faces turned towards the sun as if saying, “Hey there, Michigan, we’re here to brighten up your day!”

Get ready for a sunflower extravaganza that will leave you smiling from ear to ear.  A visit to any of these Sunflower fields will be a perfect way to spend the day in late Michigan summer.

When is Sunflower Season in Michigan

Sunflower season in Michigan is between late July and early September, with peak season sometime in mid-August.  Sunflowers love lots of warmth and sunshine, just like people, so strap on your summer sandals and sunhat and head to one of your local farms for all the fun.

Because everyone’s planting schedule is unique, check the website before heading to a location to ensure you’re going at the right time!

Sunflower Fields in Michigan – Southwest

Hubbard’s Corey Lake Orchard

If you love supporting a family-owned business, then bring your business on over to Corey Lake Orchard in Three Rivers.  This orchard has been in the Hubbard family since 1961 and is still offering fresh fruits and vegetables to their community, along with sunflowers!

If wandering through the beautiful field of 15,000 sunflowers in bloom isn’t enough, check out the Sunflower Paint and Sip class.  Find all the information online, and be prepared to sign up in advance!

Gull Meadow Farms

Tucked away in Richland is Gull Meadow Farms, the perfect place for some down-home family fun.  Enjoy a day at the farm and a walk through their five-acre field of sunflowers.  Gull Meadow proudly boasts 30 varieties of sunflowers. 

Visit during Sunflower Days and take a wagon ride to the sunflower field, cut your own flower, and take as many photos as you’d like!

Gorby Sunflowers

You can’t miss visiting Gorby Sunflowers when you’re in Southwest Michigan.  Here at this family-owned and operated Sunflower farm in Allegan, you’ll find plenty of warmth and good cheer.  Oh!  And sunflowers, too!

This farm is for photography and admiring the flowers.  U-pick is unavailable, although you can purchase pre-cut flowers on-site at the flower stand.  One visit to this little farm, and you’ll be anxiously counting the days til the next season begins.

Deep Roots Produce

Deep Roots Produce is located in Caledonia, near Grand Rapids, and situated toward the state’s center, making them one of our most centrally located farms.  They have sunflowers a-plenty, and they have them configured in a maze, so you can get the best photos while wandering among the sunny yellow blooms!

While you’re here, enjoy the petting zoo and look into the many other events they offer, including a visit from the fire department, yoga sessions, and even a glow night!  Once you’ve visited Deep Roots, you’ll want to come back!

Bremer Produce

This family farm in Hudsonville is a small, beautiful family-style farm.  They work hard to share that beauty with the community.  Admission is FREE, and photography is encouraged here at Bremer.

Purchase your flowers by the bouquet or the stem.  String, clippers, and water are available to borrow.  Bring your own vase or purchase one for $2 on-site.  One thing’s for sure.  If you haven’t fallen in love with fresh flowers, you will after you’ve visited Bremer Produce!

Hanulcik Farm Market & Orchard

Hanulcik Farm Market in Ionia has a U-pick, as with many Sunflower farms.  That means you can pick all kinds of produce in addition to your sunflowers.  The team here wisely plants their sunflower patches on a staggered schedule so the flowers bloom throughout the season and into early fall.

Hanulcik has a private sunflower patch made just for photographers.  You may rent the patch and bring your own photographer for a small fee!  Clippers and a pail are available to borrow at the market for picking your own flowers.

Ed Dunneback & Girls Farm

The best way to keep in touch with this darling farm in the Grand Rapids area is to follow their socials.  They do a great job of keeping their followers up-to-date on events throughout their summer season.  The Sunflower Festival begins annually sometime at the beginning of August.

Be sure to bring your cutting supplies.  Wander the field, cut your flower, and capture it all on camera.  But don’t visit Ed Dunneback & Girls Farm just for the Sunflowers.  Come on in and stay for Happy Hour or Trivia Night.  You can even rent space for a private event at this incredible farm.

Rasch Cherry Apple Market

Don’t be fooled by the name of this market in Conklin.  The Rasch Cherry Apple Market is not all about the cherries!  It’s also about the apples, the sunflowers, and a host of other fun things!

What makes this Sunflower maze so unique is the Haunted experience that happens each Friday and Saturday through October.  When the sun sets, the sunflower maze comes alive with chills and thrills that will keep you on your toes!

Gust Flower and Produce Farm

Gust Flower and Produce Farm is a charming family-owned farm in Ottawa Lake in Southeast Michigan, only 20 miles northwest of Toledo.  With their vast fields of vibrant sunflowers and a thriving market for U-Pick sunflowers, it’s no wonder they have become a popular destination for locals and tourists alike.

Get ready to immerse yourself in a sea of yellow and experience the joy of sunflower picking at Gust Flower and Produce Farm during their annual bloom of the Gust Brothers Sunflower Trail.  You’ll even find props for the perfect photo as you wander the trails.

Kackleberry Farms

Kackleberry Farms is a seasonal farm located in Monroe, not far from the shore of Lake Erie.  The farm is open from September 1 through October 29 each year.  The Sunflower field is just one part of the many attractions available at Kackleberry in their short eight-week-long season.

Know that if you are bringing a professional photographer for portraits, a photography pass is available and must be scheduled in advance.  This farm is the perfect location for family or senior photos!

Zilke Vegetable Farm

The Zilke Vegetable Farm in Milan boasts one of Michigan’s most beautiful sunflower fields.  In fact, they were featured in Country Living’s list of must-see sunflower fields in the US!

The sunflowers usually come alive in August, so hop online and grab your tickets to the Zilke Sunflower Festival to see what all the fuss is about!  I promise – you won’t be disappointed!

If you want to bring your own professional photographer, know that you’ll need to purchase a pass for commercial photography.

Lone Oak Sunflower Farm & Corn Maze

The Lone Oak Sunflower Farm & Corn Maze in New Boston makes it easy for everyone to get a shot at the perfect sunflower field experience.  Head over to New Boston for a walk through the fields to cut your own flowers or purchase some already cut.

Photographers can have a semi-private rental when the farm is closed for public admission.  If you’d like photos taken at the farm, let your professional photographer know so they can secure the right time and date!

DeBucks Family Farm

DeBucks Family Farm hosts an annual sunflower festival in Belleville each August that is fit for everyone in the whole family!  Not only do they have over 15 acres of sunflowers in bloom, but they also have plenty of other attractions to keep everyone busy having fun on a late summer day.  I can’t get enough of wandering through these gorgeous tulip fields!

Take a ride on the pedal cars, zoom down the giant slide, climb aboard for a wagon ride, and then send the kids to the jump pad to burn off that excess energy.  And yes, you can even leave the farm with a beautiful bouquet!

Meckley’s Flavor Fruit Farm

Meckley’s Flavor Fruit Farm in Cement City has excellent fruits, and that’s a fact!  But they also have a great Sunflower Festival throughout August.  I love the assortment of food trucks on site.  While you’re here, pick your own sunflowers, take photos a-plenty, and settle in for some live entertainment.

Keep an eye on their Facebook page for updates throughout the season.  You won’t want to miss this fantastic event!

Schell Family Farm

Schell Family Farm, located in Pinckney, Mi, takes its motto very seriously.  They love building with their community, and one way they do that is with their 7-acre field of sunflowers.  They have even added another 3 acres of wildflowers.

What better way to build community than inviting people in and having a great time together?  When you visit, enjoy the sunflowers wander through the maze, take photos, and plan to come back around at pumpkin season!

Munsell Farms

Munsell Farms is a beautiful family-owned farm in Fowlerville, Mi.  The farm has been in business since 1905 and proudly serves the community by inviting everyone in to wander through the sunflowers.

There is no charge to visit, but donation boxes are placed around the field area if you feel inclined to donate to the care and upkeep of the farm.

Spicer Orchards Farm Market

Located in Fenton, Mi, Spicer Orchards Farm Market is more than just a pretty place.  It’s a gorgeous place.  And not only is it a magnificent place to see the sunflowers, but you can also pick up some cider milled on-site, fudge, or baked goods.

The farm market offers U-pick fruits throughout the season, so when you see the sunflowers, be sure to plan to bring home some in-season fruits as well.

Westview Orchards & Winery

Every August, Westview Orchards & Winery plans a celebration of sunflowers.  Come on out to enjoy Sunflower Days throughout the month and enjoy the over 100,000 sunflowers on site!

If photos are your thing, then Westview has your back.  After you’ve taken the wagon ride out to the fields, they have strategically placed dozens of photo prop stations all around the fields so you can get your perfect shot!  Be sure and bring a friend for this one!

If you like a more understated event, check out the sunflower sunset wine dinner, the sunflower painting class, or several other special events.  Westview Orchards & Winery truly makes sure there’s something for everyone.

Romeo Lavender Farm

Romeo Lavender Farm is situated in Almont, Michigan, but it’s not all about the Lavender.  It’s also about the sunflowers.  They may not be in the name, but they are there and almost as beautiful as the Lavender.

This 17-acre farm began adding sunflowers and wildflowers to its landscape in 2021, so be prepared to watch the sunflower fields grow as time passes.

CornFun Corn Maze Adventure and Pumpkin Patch

2023 celebrates the 5th annual Sunflower Festival at CornFun in Casco!  With 10 acres of sunflowers and Zinnias to enjoy, you won’t be able to resist this fun family farm.

While you’re here, plan to visit the corn maze, take a hayride, and bring a flower home!

Blake’s Orchard & Cider Mill

Blake’s Orchard & Cider Mill is the perfect place to enjoy a day at Blake’s Sunflower Festival, held each year in August.  This 120-acre farm in the quaint village of Armada has more than just Sunflowers.

They are a working cider mill with an open-air apple press, seasonal fruits and veggies, and a tasting room and restaurant.  Make a day of it at Blake’s!

Dow Gardens

Up in Midland, Michigan, Dow Gardens is a botanical garden in Midland with flowers a-plenty.  They don’t have wide open fields of sunflowers, but planted among their many beds, you’ll find plenty of beautiful blooms upon which you can feast your eyes.

Plan to explore this botanical garden because you may fall in love with a new kind of bloom while you’re here.

Ankley Family Farms

Ankley Family Farms is a must-visit destination.  Located in Imlay City in Northeast Michigan, this farm will appeal to families and nature enthusiasts alike.

Ankley has created a fantastic Sunflower trail filled with black oil sunflowers and many photo opportunities.  Check their website for photographer fees, and be ready for some fantastic photos in this gorgeous setting.

Grandpa Tiny’s Heritage Farm

Grandpa Tiny’s Farm teaches families about farm life and encourages kids to get their hands dirty!  Situated in Michigan’s Little Bavaria in Frankenmuth, you’ll love exploring this farm during Frankenmuth’s floral season!

They have beautiful fields full of sunflowers and host a dinner in the Sunflowers, a Sunflower Fun Color Run, and a host of other activities.  You won’t leave bored or hungry, but you might leave tired after a day at Grandpa Tiny’s Farm. 

Uncle John’s Cider Mill

After 40 years, Uncle John can’t walk away from all his hard work establishing his Cider Mill in St. Johns, Michigan.  Fortunately, plenty of people in the family are continuing the business and lovingly help him to do less and less.

John and his wife Carolyn took over the small family farm in the 1970s and turned it into a new kind of business with the addition of the Cider Mill.  In the late 1990s, new family members joined the efforts and continue working the farm today.

A family-owned farm is good news for those who want to wander through the acres of Sunflowers, take in the ambiance, and sit for a glass of cider.  You can even take some home; believe me; you’ll want to.  It’s delicious!  Add Uncle John’s Cider Mill to your list of must-do experiences for this year!

Sunflower Fields in Michigan – Northwest

Leabo Farm

You’ll find the lovely Leabo Farm about a half hour north of Traverse City.  This darling small family farm in Suttons Bay in Leelanau County has a mission.

The mission is to bring joy to those who live in Leelanau County, and with their beautiful plot of brightly blooming Sunflowers open to the public, they’ve taken a giant step in accomplishing that mission.  Be sure to ask for a ladder when you visit to get a view of the sunflowers from above!

Degen Sunflower Farm

In Muskegon, Michigan, Degen Farms knows how to do it right!  If you’re lucky enough to be traveling down Michigan’s West Coast, plan a stop at this incredible family farm!

At Degen, you’ll receive a warm welcome and a friendly smile.  And as you walk around the sunflowers, you’ll find plenty of posing stations all set up to take the perfect images!  My favorite is the bright green John Deere tractor with a sea of Sunflowers behind it.

The best part of a visit to this excellent small farm is that admission is free! 

Lewis Adventure Farm & Zoo

Be sure to plan plenty of time when visiting Lewis Adventure Farm & Zoo in New Era.  You’ll need it to see and experience everything this incredible place offers.  From Splash Acres and the BumpAlong Train ride for the littlest member of your party to the Corn Hole and Giant Swing for your party’s most grown-up members, you’ll find something for everyone!

But if you’re looking for Sunflowers, and of course you are, that’s why you’re here, then you will want to plan your visit during Flower Mania, which takes place from mid-August through September each year.  Be sure to bring your camera, and plan to take some beautiful blooms home with you!

Blended Roots Farm

The Blended Roots Farm in Traverse City isn’t your everyday farm.  This farm offers far more than just the stunning Sunflower Field.  They know their visitors may love them so much that they’d like to extend their stay, so they offer a bed and breakfast for those who need more than one day to enjoy the beauty and serenity of the farm.

Their focus is all about building a community using natural agriculture.  Enter the Sunflower Field and experience community with those you bring along and other visitors, and learn about agriculture through the many different learning opportunities at the farm.

Sunflower Fields in Michigan – Upper Peninsula

Hall Farms

Hall Farms in Rock has the distinction of being the only working Farm in Michigan’s Upper Peninsula.  At least it’s the only one on my list.  If you know of another in the UP, please let me know in the comments.

For now, let’s talk about why Hall Farms stands out!  This beautiful farm is a gorgeous place to take photos, wander the fields, or watch a sunset.

I love the giant viewing platform on site that’s perfect for getting a view from above of the sea of gold.  I also love that entrance to the fields is free, but you are welcome to leave a donation.  And while you’re here, cut a few flowers to take with you!  You can take a few blooms home with you for the small fee of $1 each or 6 for $5.
