The whole town looks like someone with too many extension cords had the time of their life, and Santa always makes an appearance. This year, I finally got to experience it myself with a visit to McHenry County for Christmas in Illinois during the most wonderful time of the year.
On a vacation to Cleveland, Ohio, we stopped at the Christmas Story House (which is really more of a Christmas Story home, if we’re being honest), where the classic movie, A Christmas Story, was filmed. We had so much fun learning about a Christmas Story bb gun and the Leg Lamp in a Christmas story (it’s a major award, ya know).
Michigan in wintertime is nothing short of a snowy wonderland, and when the festive season rolls around, it truly transforms into a dazzling display of holiday cheer. As the holiday season approaches and the first part of November gives way to the end of fall and the beginning of winter, the small town of Shipshewana, Indiana, transforms into a festive wonderland. The annual Lighting Up Shipshewana event marks the beginning of the Christmas season and draws visitors from near and far.
First things first, let’s talk logistics. Shipshewana’s Lights of Joy is situated on the grounds of the Shipshewana RV Park, right next to the grounds of the Shipshewana flea market. The display is a breathtaking 1.8-mile course of Christmas light scenes that will leave you and your family in awe.
